Build the sound around the edit.

Import, replace, mix and record audio; normalize loudness, duck music and review quiet gaps locally.

Studio Beta in 1.2.0

Add or replace sound

Import audio files to the library and place music or effects on separate tracks. Extract original video audio for independent editing. Several visual crops from one film share one original audio occurrence.

  1. Select the original audio

Choose its layer in the timeline or Layers and open Audio.

  2. Replace audio

Choose imported media under Replace audio with, then apply Replace audio. The original is muted and the new material is placed at its time; Undo restores the operation.

  3. Arrange the track

Trim, move, split or loop the new audio. Sync A/V controls media linkage; manually group elements only when you want that explicit edit scope.

Mix tracks and the master

Volume and panoramaTrack/item levels
Set level and stereo position. Mute or solo tracks to isolate a part.
Fades and loopingPer audio element
Set fade in/out or a saved loop. Volume keyframes retain manual level changes over time.
Meters and limiterPreview and master mix
Meters show levels during playback. The master limiter protects the summed signal from clipping.

Preview and export evaluate the same project-time audio curves. The project clock uses 48 kHz audio timing; missing source sound is replaced by silence rather than duplicating another crop's audio.

Record commentary

  1. Set the playhead

Open Record voiceover and choose a microphone. The browser permission is requested only when you start recording.

  2. Record

Use the countdown and level meter. Microphone monitoring starts off. Stop recording finishes the local take.

  3. Review or retake

The take is added to the library and timeline from the starting playhead. Use Retake when needed, and adjust recording offset in milliseconds to correct alignment.

Normalize and duck

Normalize loudnessDefault -16 LUFS
Analyze selected audio locally. Gain is capped at +12 dB with peak headroom; silence is not boosted.
Duck musicDefault 12 dB reduction
Choose a voice source and target music tracks. The generated curve combines with manual levels/keyframes rather than replacing them.
Update analysisWhen source/timing changes
A changed source marks preparation stale. Recalculate before relying on the old curve.

Full templates can retain normalization/ducking settings and run analysis for newly assigned media. Audio stays on the device; a failed or cancelled analysis preserves the project.

Review quiet-gap proposals

  1. Find quiet gaps

Default detection looks below -40 dBFS for at least one second, with 150 ms speech padding.

  2. Listen and choose

Review timeline proposals, preview a gap, skip individual suggestions and inspect the total time. Analysis alone never removes footage.

  3. Approve cuts

Approval applies the common montage cuts and ripple as one Undo operation. A locked layer or a crossing transition stops the operation with a specific message.

Gap detection is a level-based suggestion, not a speech or editorial judgment. Keep quiet moments that matter to the story.
