Recording & screenshots
Record the player you are watching, capture a frame or repair the seeking metadata of an older WebM.
Find it in: Toolkit/Player
Start and finish a recording
Choose Recording file format
Under Player > Recording, select WebM or MP4. Native MP4 recording requires browser support.
Start with Record
Use the selected player's Record icon and choose the output file. The format is fixed for this recording.
Pause or resume when needed
Player settings offer Pause and Resume. The recorder captures the selected video, not your desktop, microphone or camera.
Stop and save
Finalization writes duration and seeking information. Keep the page open until that stage finishes.
Keep an unfinished file intact
Changing pages or forcing Chrome to close can interrupt finalization. The streaming file picker is preferable for long recordings. A memory-based fallback is limited to 128 MB. Protected or incompatible playback can fail before recording begins.
Capture the current frame
Select the player
Use that player's Camera action or its Player tools.
Save or copy the PNG
Choose a file download or the clipboard option where the browser permits it. Clipboard access may need your explicit action.
Check the frame
The image captures the video frame rather than a screenshot of your whole browser.
Repair an older WebM's seeking
Open Player > Saved WebM
Choose the earlier local recording you want to repair.
Save seekable copy
Save a new copy with duration and seeking metadata. The default name adds -seekable.
Keep the source
Use a different filename. This repairs the container; your media player still needs support for the video and audio codecs.
Common questions
Does recording include my microphone?
No. It reads the selected player's video stream.
Why is MP4 recording unavailable?
The browser must support native H.264/AAC recording. Use WebM when that support is missing.
Does WebM repair improve picture quality?
No. It adds container seeking information without re-encoding.
Written for version 1.1. Some controls may be unavailable in an earlier installed release. See release notes.
