Clips & VOD downloads

Find public clips or select a video, prepare a source and save it in the format that suits you.

Find it in: ToolkitClips / Player

Find or open a clip

  1. Use Clips for discovery

Choose a channel, sort public clips by popularity or date and use Kick's time ranges. Local text and UTC-date filters apply to loaded results.

  2. Load more when needed

Pagination loads a bounded set, up to 500 clips. A local filter cannot retrieve clips that have not been loaded.

  3. Open Download

Use Download clip in a native clip popup, Download video in a VOD player, or open Player's download section on the video's page.

Prepare, then save

  1. Select the source

Check that the source belongs to the clip or VOD you opened. Refresh sources if discovery is still waiting.

  2. Choose quality, format and range

Use Saved video resolution or override Source quality. Set supported start/end times before preparation.

  3. Prepare download

This checks the playlist and requests the relevant media host permission when needed. An additional host can require another explicit Prepare click.

  4. Save video

Choose the local file and keep the page open during download and conversion. Changing the source, format or range requires preparation again.

Choose a file format

FormatWhat it doesChoose it when
MP4Copies compatible H.264/AAC tracks or converts other supported codecs locally. You want a broadly compatible video file.
WebMConverts supported video/audio locally to VP8/Opus.Your player supports WebM and the browser supports conversion.
Original sourceKeeps available source media without conversion, usually TS or MP4.You want the source format and plan to edit or play it with compatible tools.

Ranges and connection interruptions

Supported completed HLS playlists allow segment-aligned ranges. The actual boundaries are shown before saving. Direct MP4 downloads save the full file; use recording for an unsupported excerpt. Separate audio playlists, encryption and incompatible format changes can prevent a download.

Interrupted segments or byte ranges can retry up to three times with 1, 2 and 4-second waits. Completed work stays in place; only the failed request repeats. Cancel stops retries. An exhausted or permanent failure aborts the incomplete output; there is no resume across page reloads.

Worked example

Why can conversion take longer than downloading?

Unsupported source codecs may need local re-encoding. Long videos can use substantial CPU. Original source avoids conversion when you can use its format.

Why is Source quality empty?

The current player may not expose a usable source yet. Refresh sources and confirm the video is available and belongs to the page you opened.
